Category Theory has carried, for much of its history, an aura of being "metamathematical", and has even been referred to as "abstract nonsense". As the field matures, though, it is becoming apparent that categories are perfectly reasonable and concrete structures on the same level as the familiar groups, rings, topological spaces, and so on. This seminar will explore some applications of categories to such diverse topics as mathematical physics, knot theory, universal algebra, logic, and the foundations of mathematics.
