VIGRE Short Course - Introductory Algebraic Geometry
Fall 2007

Time & location: All meetings are 2:00pm Tuesdays, Gibson Hall 414

The seminar is a basic Algebraic Geometry short course. It will start at the definitions of polynomial rings and algebraic sets. From there we will talk about varieties, the Zariski topology, monomial orderings, the Hilbert basis theorem, Buchberger's algorithm, Groebner bases and Hilbert's Nullstellensatz. Time permitting we will cover the algebraic Nullstellensatz and possibly derivations and the Zariski cotangent space.
