Announcements
- Note that the final is non-cumulative, but the material it covers (chapter 11) makes use of a lot of older material (limits, improper integrals, etc.).
Wednesday, June 28, 2006 at 03:43
- Additional practice problems for the final:
- Chapter 11 Review (pp. 786-788)
- Concept check: 1-4,5a-f,6,8,9,10c,11abc (For 11, know ab and be able to derive part c.)
- True/False: 1,7,10,11,12,14,17,18
- Exercises: 1,3,13,15,23,41,47,49,55
- I've graded the second midterm; you can pick those up in class or during office hours if you didn't do so at the review session. The exam lists your score and the corresponding grade (out of 4.0) as well as your grade (out of 4.0) on the first midterm (denoted by "M1:"). For the second midterm, the rough grade ranges were:
- 4 people scored 80%-90% (A/A-)
- 4 people scored 65%-79% (B+/B)
- 3 people scored 50%-64% (B-/C+)
- 3 people scored 35%-49% (C/C-)

- The duplicate lectures (Mon.) and review session (Tues.) will be held in Gibson 400D. (Boggs is closed due to lack of water.) The Mon. lectures will run from 6:30-7:45 p.m. (covering the Tues. lecture) and 8:00-9:15 p.m. (covering the Wed. lecture); you'll be able to take quizzes then (if I give quizzes later this week) so that you wouldn't need to come to lecture the next two days. The review session on Tues. will run from 7:00-9:00.

- Boggs has apparently been shut down, so it's taking a while to get a room for tonight. I'm told that we should have one by early afternoon.
- I'll have the letter grades for the first two midterms before you study for the final.

- Looking at the current quiz grades (after dropping the lowest quiz to date) for the 14 people with more than three quiz grades, the following are the averages averages (and very rough corresponding grades)
- 4 have averages between 4.8 and 5.61 (roughly A)
- 3 have averages between 3.7 and 4 (roughly B to high B)
- 5 have averages between 2.8 and 3.25 (roughly low B)
- 2 have averages between 2.3 and 2.4 (roughly C or high C)
Saturday, June 17, 2006 at 01:44
- There will not be a quiz the day after the midterm. Also, because we didn't get very far through 11.1 before the exam, a quiz on Wed. might cover material from before chapter 11.
Saturday, June 17, 2006 at 01:31
- Recall that the second midterm will be on Monday, 19 June. (See link for more info.)
Monday, June 12, 2006 at 12:30
- The homework for 7.3 went up later than usual, so it will not appear on a quiz until Thursday, 08 June (at the earliest).
Tuesday, June 6, 2006 at 01:26
- Recall that quizzes do not cover the material from the immediately preceding lecture. Thus a quiz on Monday might cover material from lecture on the previous Wednesday, but not from the previous Thursday. (This should allow you to look at, and ask questions about, a lecture's homework before that same material appears on a quiz.)
Wednesday, May 31, 2006 at 09:45
- There won't be a quiz on Monday (05 June) so that you can catch up on studying (for this course and others) after the midterm; it's possible there will be quizzes on other days next week, though.
Wednesday, May 31, 2006 at 09:45
- Some additional practice problems are now up on the exam page.
Wednesday, May 31, 2006 at 02:41
- Information on the first midterm is now posted.
Wednesday, May 31, 2006 at 01:40
- The review session for the first midterm will be on Tuesday (30 May) in Boggs 242 (our regular classroom) from 7:00-9:00 p.m.
Monday, May 29, 2006 at 00:23
- Quizzes cannot be made up, but I will drop the lowest quiz grade from the semester.
Wednesday, May 24, 2006 at 01:24
- The first midterm will be on Thursday, 01 June. Right now I expect that this will cover Chapters 5 and 6 (material through Tuesday, 30 May); final word on the material to be covered will come as the exam gets closer.
Wednesday, May 24, 2006 at 01:22
- As announced in class, there will not be a lecture on Monday, 22 May.
Thursday, May 18, 2006 at 09:49

Grading
Your grade in this course will be based on quizzes and exams. The approximate
weights that will be given to these when I compute your final grade are given below. In addition to the weights, please note that you should earn a C on at least
one of the three exams in order to receive a C in the course.
Exams (60-75%)
There will be three in-class exams, the last one on the final day of class. Each exam will be worth 20-25% of your final grade.
Homework (0%)
Homework will be posted on the
web but will not be collected nor graded. I encourage you to discuss the problems with each other (but then, of course, write up the work by yourself).
Quizzes (25-40%)
There will be fairly frequent in-class quizzes. These will generally cover recent material and contain 1 or 2 questions (10 minutes).
